*Note:
Buying a Fujifilm product from a UK retailer does not necessarily mean
that the product is of UK specification. It is best to check directly
with the retailer.
We at Fujifilm always
want our products to be offered competitively and fairly; however,
getting the best deal may not always involve buying from the retailer
with the cheapest price. Because of the global nature of the market,
cameras and photographic products originally intended for markets other
than the UK are sometimes imported and sold by retailers in the UK.
This is a legal and legitimate practice, but it is necessary to
understand that it can entail some hidden pitfalls:
Fujifilm
UK frequently supplies cameras to the UK market with extra
specification and parts as part of the package. The same model sourced
from outside the UK may not be to the same specification.
Cameras
sourced from foreign markets will not include the UK registration card.
This means that you do not benefit from the same after-sales service,
information and offers enjoyed by owners of UK specification cameras.
When
a UK resident buys a camera, prices quoted should include VAT. Be aware
that retailers operating outside UK VAT regulations may not include VAT
in the price. Upon receipt of products, it is a legal requirement for
the purchaser to pay VAT and import duty, although this may be hidden
in the documentation's small print. For total peace of mind, be sure to
check with the seller that the VAT will not become payable upon entry
into the UK.
The power leads of many cameras sourced
from foreign markets will be designed to function from a local voltage,
rather than the UK standard 240V. This issue will be compounded by
discovering that the camera has a power adapter with the incorrect plug
fitting.
Non UK-specification products are frequently
supplied with instruction manuals in a foreign language. To obtain an
original instruction manual in English language incurs a charge.
Occasionally,
the camera's menu system runs in a foreign language, and cannot be
switched to English without complete reinstallation of the camera's
circuitry. This incurs substantial charges.
At the end
of the product's life, under new regulations (the EU WEEE Directive),
the importer is responsible for the disposal and recycling of the
product. In the case of non-UK specification product, the importer is
not Fujifilm UK, and Fujifilm UK accepts no liability for charges or
prosecutions arising from the illegal disposal of the product.
Certain
Fujifilm products are not offered by Fujifilm UK and as such, are
unserviceable and unidentifiable by our Service Centre.
How do I tell whether the camera I am buying is of UK specification?
The most straightforward way is to contact or ask the retailer directly.
If
any doubt or confusion arises over the definition of 'UK
specification', this can be resolved by checking the product
description label on the exterior of the box.
